TheChief Legal Officer is a member of our collaboratively structured senior executiveteam, collectively leading strategic direction, safety, soundness and growth ofChartway Credit Union.
Functionally responsiblefor leading corporate strategic and tactical legal, risk, and complianceinitiatives and providing effective advice across the credit union accordingly.
Engaged internally and externally across constituenciesof all levels.
Responsible for the Legislative/Regulatory Affairs, and Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management.
RESPONSIBLE AND ACCOUNTABLE FOR:

Serves as member of senior executive management team (CTeam), partnering and contributing to the successful creation and execution of the credit unions strategy and business plan for safety, soundness, brand reputation and growth.

Assumes ultimate responsibility for ensuring that the credit union conducts its business in compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
Serves as advisor to and maintains collaborative relationships with fellow executives on the CTeam and, more broadly, members of leadership across the enterprise to effectively minimize risk throughout the organization while promoting the successful fulfillment of the credit unions purpose, values and strategy.

Serves as key lawyer/legal advisor on all major business transactions and oversees all litigation related to the credit union, including but not limited to all contracts / agreements, merger & acquisition, consumer protection, foreclosure and bankruptcy, consumer protection, and employment matters.

When outside counsel is deemed beneficial based on situational circumstances and/or specialty, the Chief Legal Officer will oversee the selection, retention, management and evaluation of all outside counsel.

Directs and oversees all aspects of the credit unions enterprise risk management, BSA and compliance functions.

Directs and oversees team engagement for Legislative and Regulatory efforts in supporting concert with Chartways Legislative, Regulatory and Advocacy Committee.
Engages with federal and state trade associations.

In partnership with Vice President of Corporate Planning, develops, revises and advises on corporate policies, procedures and programs.

In partnership with Vice President of Internal Audit, serves as a key conduit with NCUA related to regulatory examinations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS ANDABILITIES:

Ability to provide competent legal advice and counsel to senior executives and Board of Directors on a wide range of legal and policy issues.

Knowledge of the range of applicable laws and regulations which impact on all facets of credit union policy and operations.
Provided guidance to company on current and developing legal issues.

Ability to analyze and interpret issues; prepare legal opinion; and develop and implement legal strategies and solutions.

Knowledge and understanding of credit union policies and procedures and the regulatory environment within which they operate.

Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Ability to lead, communicate and influence various audiences, including Board of Directors, business partners, leadership, team members and members.

Proven ability to promote teamwork and collaborative decision-making among leaders and teams.

Ability and willingness to travel as necessary.
EDUCATION &BACKGROUND:

Education:
JurisDoctorate required.


Experience:
Five
years of compliance or corporatelaw experience in a credit union, bank, or other financial institutionpreferred.
Other operational or auditingexperience desirable.

Leadership:
Comfortable leading in alignment with Chartways leadershipcompetencies.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
